I saw Osgood Perkins' adaptation of Stephen King's "The Monkey" on the big screen inside the Aviation Mall this past weekend for the podcast. I'm not a fan of Stephen King (minus his masterpiece "The Stand'). I did like Osgood Perkins' "Longlegs" though! It was one of the best films I saw last year. I left all my expectations aside and waited until the film was over like I always do to see if I like it or not.
While I applaud Osgood for taking the "no explanation of the monkey" approach and the type of route he took with the horror, it did not do it for me. Perhaps the humorous ways victims were killed wasn't funny like it was supposed to be OR maybe I don't have the same twisted sense of humor that Perkins or King had, I just didn't enjoy the film whatsoever. That could also be that I've only enjoyed ONE Stephen King book! Half the theater laughed at the death scenes, the other (me included) did not! Like all art, this will boil down to taste!
